Our guru Madivala Machideva was a great warrior and a saint of the twelfth century.
Madivala Machideva fought valiantly against King Bijjala's army to protect manuscripts of vachanas written by Sharanas and transported them from Basava Kalyan. He followed the Lingayath dharma professed by Vishwaguru Basavanna.
Madivala Machideva was the coeval Sharana of Guru Basaveshwara. He fought against the communal forces which intended to destroy the Vachana Sahitya literature during the Kalyana Kranti. He use to wash the clothes of all sharanas & prepare a madi for them. He also worked to define the daily practice of Lingayath ethics. In his vachanas, he specified about Basaveshwara, linga, jangama, prasada and even seven worlds.
The people among Madiwal community have witnessed socio-economic backwardness since centuries. A small section of people have progressed but majority of us still remain backward due to various reasons. Education is a powerful tool to curb poverty and progress socially. There have been many policies/schemes for the backward communities and if utilised properly would help in the upliftment of our community people. Inclusion into Scheduled Castes, though a distant dream would definitley help the community people in many ways.
